Japanese folklore-themed roguelike RPG Kaguraden coming to Switch 1&2 and PC Steam in 2027
Jet Studio has revealed that they will release a new roguelike RPG titled Kaguraden for Nintendo Switch 1&2 and PC via Steam sometime in 2027. The studio will also bring a playable demo build of the game to Tokyo Game Show 2026.
This roguelike game will have dungeons that notably use hex grids as opposed to the more commonly seen square grids. In addition, the studio has employed several notable voice actors for the main character cast, such as Mutsumi Tamura and Showtaro Morikubo.

Game Overview
Kaguraden is a 3D roguelike RPG set in a Japanese-inspired world.
Its dungeons are built on three-dimensional hexagonal grids with varied elevations. Terrain, enemies, and item placements change with every adventure, creating a different experience each time, even within the same dungeon.
Kagura, a boy born between humans and oni, accidentally breaks the seal on the sacred “Sealed Blade” enshrined in his village. Strange events begin to spread across the land, and mononoke grow increasingly active. To undo the disaster he has caused and recover the lost blade and its power, Kagura ventures into dungeons scattered throughout the mountains.
Venture Into the Dungeon
Every dungeon run begins at Level 1. Gather weapons, shields, outfits, talismans, and other items to strengthen Kagura as you navigate changing terrain and enemy placements on your way to the boss waiting in the depths.
Bring Back Your Rewards
Return safely to the village and you can keep the spoils you have collected. Fall along the way, however, and everything gained during that adventure will be lost. Do you push deeper, or turn back with what you have?
Develop Your Gear and Village
Equipment brought back from the dungeon can be upgraded and combined. Money earned during your adventures can also be used to develop the village, expanding shop inventories and unlocking additional services.
Venture into the dungeon, return with your rewards, strengthen your equipment and village, then set out once again. Along the way, Kagura begins to uncover the truth about his parents—and the secrets surrounding the human and oni blood that runs through his veins.
Key Features
A 3D Dungeon That Changes With Every Adventure
The dungeons of Kaguraden are built on three-dimensional hexagonal grids with varied elevations. Terrain, enemies, and item placements change with every adventure, creating a different set of circumstances each time you enter.
How do you use the high ground? How close do you let enemies get? Which route do you take? Read the terrain and your surroundings, then choose each move carefully. No two runs unfold exactly the same way, creating new tactical possibilities every time you enter a dungeon.
Push Forward or Turn Back—The Choice Is Part of the Strategy
Equipment and items found in the dungeon can only be kept if Kagura returns safely to the village. If he falls along the way, everything gained during that adventure will be lost.
Do you venture deeper in search of better rewards, or secure what you already have and head home? The equipment and items you can bring into a dungeon are also limited.
What do you take with you? How far do you push? When do you turn back? Managing limited resources and knowing when to retreat are key parts of the strategy in Kaguraden.
40 Weapons, 30 Shields, and 20 Outfits—Collect, Upgrade, and Combine
Kaguraden features 40 weapons, 30 shields, and 20 outfits. Equipment brought back from the dungeon can be upgraded and combined. Talismans with various attributes and special effects can also be used to add new abilities to your gear.
Which equipment you develop and which effects you combine can significantly change the way you approach each dungeon. Outfits also affect Kagura’s appearance, not just his stats.
60 Monsters × 3 Ranks—180 Variations in Total
The dungeons are home to 60 different monsters inspired by Japanese folklore and aesthetics. Each monster appears in three ranks, with changes not only to its appearance but also to its abilities, creating a total of 180 enemy variations.
Six bosses also await across the game’s various dungeons. Use the equipment and items you discover, take advantage of the three-dimensional terrain, and rely on your own tactical judgment to overcome these powerful foes.
Every Dungeon Run Starts at Level 1
Kagura begins each dungeon run at Level 1. Defeat enemies and grow stronger during the run while making use of the equipment you brought with you, along with items and talismans discovered along the way.
With terrain and available items changing each time, how you develop Kagura will differ from one adventure to the next, creating a new progression and strategy with every run.
Your Adventures Help the Village Grow
Money brought back from the dungeons can be used to upgrade villagers’ homes and facilities. As the village develops, its appearance changes, while shops expand their inventories and available services.
Venture into the dungeon, return with your rewards, strengthen your equipment and village, then head out again. The more adventures Kagura completes, the more the village around him gradually changes.
