Final Fantasy VII Rebirth for PS5 to get the lighting improvements from the PC version in an update

Square Enix will be patching Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PS5 to bring in the lighting improvements from the PC version alongside the update that adds in Streamlined Progression for both PC and PS5.

This was announced by studio head for Creative Studio I at Square Enix, Naoki Hamaguchi. The announcement post implies the update will be released the same day the Switch 2 and Xbox ports release which lines up with how it was handled for Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. It is worth noting that we don't know how Rebirth will handle trophies and achievements with this enabled. It will likely be similar to how it is with Streamlined Progression in Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth won Best Music in RPG Site's Best of 2024 Awards. You can read about it and more here. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is now available on PlayStation 5 and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store). Read my handheld impressions here and our PS5 review here. It is coming to Switch 2 and Xbox Series (Play Anywhere) on June 3.

To coincide with the launch of FFVII REBIRTH on Switch 2 and Xbox, we’re preparing an update that adds Streamlined Progression features to the PS5 and PC versions.

The PS5 version will also incorporate the lighting improvements previously added on PC.

Across the FFVII REMAKE series, our goal is to offer a consistent experience on every platform, and we’ll continue working to ensure players can enjoy the game comfortably wherever they choose to play.
