Open world action RPG Project TAL unveiled with announcement trailer
Publisher WEMADE MAX has announced a new single-player open world action RPG called Project TAL. The game is in development at studio MADNGINE for PC and consoles, targeting a global release sometime in 2027. The announcement was accompanied by a teaser trailer showing off in-game graphics and a series of large-scale battles against massive bosses.
Project TAL Announcement Trailer
The trailer shows off a number of cinematic and gameplay scenes rendered in what looks to be Unreal Engine 5 (MADNGINE's other game, the MMORPG Night Crows, also uses Unreal Engine 5). The scenes showcase an expansive fantasy world inspired by Korean myth and folklore. The gameplay involves action-based combat against large fantasy enemies and bosses, where the player is aided by up to three NPC companions, each with unique abilities and roles. One member, for example, appeared to wield a large shield, banging on it to attract the enemy boss' attention. Other scenes showed off cooperative actions, such as deploying large barriers to ward off attacks or catching a companion thrown into the air by the enemy. The game is said to be single-player, so the companions are NPCs.
MADNGINE's press release also mentions a "climbing action" system that allows players to grapple with large monsters to deliver attacks to their weak spots. Skill combos within the party should also expand combat options. Narratively, Project TAL's setting is inspired by Korean masks ("tal"), used in everything from storytelling and theater to war.
