1989 PC-8801 version of Crimson II ported to Nintendo Switch via EGG Console

D4 Enterprise has newly released a port of the 1989 PC-8801 version of Crimson II for Nintendo Switch via their EGG Console series. This port is available in Nintendo eShops worldwide, including in the US where it costs $6.49.

Being the second title, the first Crimson entry has also been available on the Switch since last January. This leaves the third and last entry in the trilogy, which is currently still only available on D4's Project EGG emulator for Windows PCs.

You can find the official screenshots and descriptions for the Crimson II port right below. Despite having English descriptions and worldwide releases, the actual port is still only available in Japanese.

Fifty years have passed since Crimson was defeated by the Hero. Now, a new darkness looms over the world...And five newly chosen heroes rise, guided by divine revelation.

Long ago, three brave heroes, Isabella and Arnold, defeated “Crimson,” the evil force that once ruled this world, bringing peace. Fifty years since that battle, darkness now threatens the world again.

One day, Nopoli’s elder witnessed a sinister falling star, sensing it as a sign of evil’s return. He summoned a young man possessing a mysterious orb, passed down from his father. Accepting his destiny as the Holy Hero (as legend foretold, five heroes with sacred gems would lead to peace), the young man journeyed to find the remaining four and vanquish the rising darkness.

At the same time, the four destined heroes each received their own divine revelations and awaited the arrival of the Holy Hero.

This is a role-playing game released in Japan by XTAL SOFT in 1989. Players become the “Holy Hero,” embarking on an adventure with four companions to defeat a resurrecting evil force. Before the protagonist, players experience prologue chapters for the warrior Gobas, priest Rima, wizard Marlon, and female warrior Natasha. Afterward, the protagonist joins them, forming a party and starting the full adventure.

The game features a top-down view, with encounter-based, command-selection battles. The story spans over ten chapters. While familiar players may notice hidden references, the game is fully enjoyable even without prior experience.
